The Yale University Astrophysics department needed a web interface that would receive, and then send, data between servers. This interface allows scientists in Connecticut to send a nightly observation schedule to telescope operators in Chile. Once the data arrives on the Chilean servers, the telescope operators then use the web interface to send each scheduled observation to the computer that controls the telescope.

I worked with a local Fortune 500 company to help in the deployment of a social media presence on Facebook. We created one Facebook business account for the overall company, as well as for two additional accounts for the company’s high-profile programs, ClimateSmart and CARE. My responsibilities on these projects included creating realistic visual designs of the Facebook presence for internal client approval, re-purposing program graphics to work within the confines of Facebook, and coding the Facebook fan pages.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) deployed a social media presence on Twitter. For this project, it was important that the web design meet the new company brand standards while providing information for the customer that was clear and understandable. I created the page layout and color scheme while working within both the brand guidelines and the confines of the Twitter layout.
In order to promote the Next100 blog, the local gas and electric company turned to Google Ads. Working with standard Google Ad sizes, I designed a series of banners. These banners were meant to emphasize green energy and energy efficiency.
For this project, I provided the following services:
- Visual design consulting

I worked with Susan Halko, a multi-faceted writer, to develop her business card and logo. It was important to Susan that her card be professional and concise, while expressing to who she is as a person.
A local band wanted some t-shirts made for their family and fans. I took the photograph and created the image and logo for a multitude of t-shirts, mugs and bags.
Binder Construction in San Francisco hired me to do a card for their construction business. The card needed to appeal to a wide audience: potential clients, subcontractors, architects and engineers. The resulting design was modern while remaining basic and uncomplicated.
In order to promote pge.com to employees and customers, a multitude of mugs, pens, and flash drives needed to be created. I created the item designs and worked with the printers to proof and order the final materials.
This shirt was created to reward California Gas Transmission employees for reaching their total profit goal of 400 million dollars. The shirt needed to be subtle but humorous, using the department mascot of a pig and a bearing a quote frequently used by the department director.
One of the most enjoyable projects in which I partake is the yearly Dempsay Binder holiday card. The card started out as a simple, interesting image sent off to friends, and over time evolved to include much more elaborately executed Photoshop designs.
The Dempsay Binder yearly holiday card has become some sort of cult icon with my family and friends. It is getting increasingly difficult to come up with an idea that will top the previous year’s card, and I’m always threatening to retire.
